Skills students will have at the end of each level

A1

~500-1000 words~8 weeks

This is the beginner level. By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Pronounce letters, letter groups, and words clearly and correctly.
  • Use greetings and common expressions.
  • Write words and sentences correctly.
  • Describe places and situations.
  • Distinguish between formal and informal language; talk about nationalities, daily activities, professions, personal information, holidays, jobs, likes and dislikes, past and future situations, etc.
  • Ask simple questions.
  • Use simple patterns.
  • Express good wishes and congratulations.
  • Express sadness, satisfaction, and dissatisfaction.
  • Ask for someone else's opinion.
  • Ask and tell the time.
  • Distinguish parts of speech (noun, adjective, verb, etc.).
  • Know correct verb conjugations and use plural forms of nouns.
  • Understand and use noun–adjective agreement.
  • Use and identify numbers.
  • Introduce themselves.

A2

~1000-2000 words12 weeks

At this level, the student can now read and understand simple texts and introduce themselves. By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Read and understand very simple texts.
  • Describe everyday life situations.
  • Communicate in a simple way.
  • Ask questions about texts read or videos watched.
  • Request additional information.
  • Talk about weather, cities, sports, hotel reservations, calling a taxi, working on a computer, means of transportation, etc.
  • Recognize and use time expressions and basic tenses (present, past, future, etc.).
  • Form sentences with conjunctions and prepositional phrases.
  • Participate in role-play activities and conversations.
  • Make suggestions.
  • Request and provide information.
  • Write an informal letter/email.
  • Write a CV.
  • Use optative, conditional, and imperative moods.
  • Conjugate verbs and prepositions correctly.
  • Use possessive and demonstrative pronouns and adjectives.
  • Recognize basic cases: nominative, dative, genitive, accusative.
  • Distinguish different verb forms.

B1

~2000-4000 words12 weeks

This is the intermediate level. Those seeking citizenship by descent are expected to successfully complete this level. By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Tell a short story.
  • Communicate on familiar topics.
  • Understand commonly used texts in conversations.
  • Write messages and compositions expressing feelings, emotions, and impressions.
  • Recognize and use indefinite and negative pronouns, and personal pronouns in dative and accusative cases.
  • Use ordinal numbers (first, second, third...), question and exclamatory sentences.
  • Give instructions and explanations about a process (such as giving a recipe and explaining how to make it).
  • Clearly describe events, objects, and processes related to their own work.
  • Connect a text with personal experiences.
  • Express opinions.
  • Express opinions in writing.
  • Understand perspectives in a text and explain them in their own words.
  • Participate in communicative activities including role-play.
  • Talk about social activities, historical cities, cultural programs, food, going to the opera/theater, famous inventors and actors, event and trip organization, etc.

B2

~4000-8000 words

At this level, the student can speak fluently and spontaneously, present their own opinions, and understand spoken and written texts at a high level. By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Read and understand newspaper articles on various topics.
  • Write clear and precise sentences, compositions, and detailed letters.
  • Read largely independently.
  • Speak fluently and spontaneously on various topics.
  • Present their own opinions.
  • Defend an opinion with details.
  • Understand spoken and written texts at a high level.
  • Write clear and detailed descriptions of real events.
  • Recognize and use abbreviations, past conditional, and pluperfect tenses.
  • Use passive structures.
  • Understand written communication tasks and expectations.
  • Adapt to variety in vocabulary and grammar structures.
  • Answer questions in interviews.

C1

~8000-15000 words

At this level, the student can express their opinions spontaneously and naturally, develop specific topics in detail, and understand long and complex texts; write long letters, compositions, and reports. By the end of the course, the student will be able to:

  • Express opinions spontaneously and naturally.
  • Develop specific topics.
  • Understand articles in their field of expertise.
  • Understand conversations at normal speed.
  • Understand long and complex texts or compositions.
  • Write long letters, compositions, and reports.
  • Understand most TV news, documentaries, live interviews, and discussion programs.
  • Understand video and radio broadcasts.

C2

~15000-20000+ words

At this level, the student has reached an academic level and can participate in conversations effortlessly. They can understand any kind of conversation, speak as fast as a native speaker, and write professional/literary texts. Additionally, the student:

  • Has a high command of idiomatic expressions and sentences.
  • Can emphasize key points so listeners can follow important ideas.
  • Can understand complex instructions in their own field.
  • Understands all types of spoken language.
  • Discusses different perspectives to develop the ability to express opinions.
  • Can write professional and literary texts.
  • Can follow the outlines of complex academic and professional presentations, lectures, speeches, and reports as language.
  • Recognizes and uses relative pronouns, conjunctions, and the supine structure.
